Laure Sejean is an uber-talented, Dubai-based makeup artist who is the epitome of French chic and bringing out the natural beauty in her lovely clients.

Let’s start at the beginning: tell us a bit more about you, your work and what role you play in someone’s wedding. 

I’m Laure Sejean and Makeup Artist. I’m based in Dubai and been living here for the past 13 years.

Before being a Makeup Artist, I was an HR Director. After being through a burn-out I decided to do what was meaningful for me making women feel amazing about themself and bringing joy and happiness through makeup.

As working a lot with brides, my role is to ensure that the bride feels amazing about herself at the end of the makeup session and feeling extraordinary to say yes to the man of her life. Beyond making the bride feel special, my role is also to ensure that she will have a relaxing experience before going down the aisle.

What made you decide to become a makeup artist?

I’ve always wanted to have a positive impact on people and to work with people. In my previous role as HR Director, I was indeed having an impact on people but unfortunately, it was not always a positive one.

Today I only focus on the positive by making women feel amazing about themselves and bringing happiness to my clients!

What do you love most about your job and is there anything you’d consider your specialty?

I feel extremely lucky to be a makeup artist as my only aim is to make women feel amazing about themselves. Through makeup, I create a unique experience for the bride by making her feel on top of her game for this day so special to her and her future husband. Nothing can make me happier than seeing my bride is full of joy when discovering the makeup I’ve done for them.

I love bringing out the natural beauty of my clients and enhancing their best features.

I also do this by focusing on the skin to make it fresh, luminous and glowy.

Let’s talk about timelines: can you highlight the most important timings of the day (makeup/hairstyle wise) and is there anything brides should consider in particular?

The time of makeup and hair is so important for a bride. It will determine the whole mood for the day. My work is to exceed her expectations so that she feels extraordinary, stunning, and great about herself!

For me, it is a time when I’m fully focused on the bride to ensure that I will create the perfect makeup and hair look that she has envisioned for her big day.

Do you have any favorite products (especially long-lasting)?

I cannot live with a good fixing spray! There are so many of them but my 2 favorite ones are the Urban Decay All Nighter fixing spray and the MAC Cosmetics Fix+ Spray Matifying. The perfect combo to ensure long-lasting makeup!

How would you describe your “ideal” bride?

The brides who connect want to have bridal makeup that will enhance their natural beauty and not transform them. I love working on the skin of my bride and create fresh and glowing skin. This is what my bride clients are usually looking for. For me, it is also very important that a connection and trust are built between my bride clients and me. It is essential for me that the bride feels completely relaxed between my hands. This is also possible as I always do a trial session before the wedding day.

Any piece of advice you’d like to give any bride out there planning her wedding?

I always advise my bride clients to look after their skin way before the big day. It starts by drinking a lot of water at least a month before to ensure that your skin will be well hydrated.

Have a first facial done by a professional 8 weeks before and then a 2nd one a week before to get the most of great and glowing skin for the wedding day.

Can you run us through a typical wedding day for you?

I usually arrive at the venue at least 4 hours before the actual time the bride needs to be ready to leave for the ceremony or the photoshoot.

It helps the bride to feel completely relaxed and for her to have some “me-time”.

In addition, as I work at the same time as the hairstylist, there will be a time where I need to stop the session in order for the hairstylist to work the hair magic too.

I always stay until the bride put the wedding gown on, so I can do some last touch-up and ensure everything will be perfect for the photoshoot and before she goes down the aisle.

Some brides also like me to stay during the celebration and dinner to change the makeup or do any touch-ups.

When it comes to dancing, tears, photography, etc. what would be your number one tip for every bride to consider in order to stay fresh and flawless until the early morning hours?

For me there shouldn’t be any compromise on the mascara, it should be waterproof. My favorite one is the Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof. The formula is amazing and it stays put for hours and hours!

I like to suggest to my bride to keep a concealer in their purse to keep the under-eyes as fresh as in the morning, some powder to avoid any shine on their skin, and the matching lipstick to keep a gorgeous pout.

What inspires you when creating a look for a bride? What’s the creation process like (do they show you photos, etc.)?

I get inspired by the bride herself. I create the makeup look for her and based on her natural beauty.

My only purpose when creating bridal makeup is to enhance the natural beauty and creating one that will meet what she has envisioned.

I never do 2 same bridal makeups.

However, in order for me to know better the style of my bride, I ask them to share with me some makeup photos of reference so I can better understand the makeup style they like.

Do you have any favorite UAE wedding venues?

I love the Park Hyatt. It’s such an iconic place in Dubai.

The view of the marina is so nice and you can celebrate your wedding with intimacy at the Palm Garden.
